Welcome to QueerPod

QPod is a group of lesbian and gay family lawyers who are specialists in gay relationships. We are all experienced family lawyers from different firms who have joined together to offer specialist legal advice to our lesbian and gay clients. We are all also members of Resolution (a specialist body of family lawyers) and follow their Code of Practice to promote a constructive approach to family matters. Click here for more information about Resolution. Our aim is to help people reach agreements in resect of the many issues they may face at times of relationship & family crisis and to do so in a way that is hepful and constructive. We will avoid contested court proceedings if at all possible.

We are all trained collaboratative lawyers and many of us are also mediators. In cases where we are not acting as collaborative lawyers or mediators, we none the less act constructively and follow the Resolution code of practice.

Collaborative law is a non court based constructive and cooperative method of reaching agreement on any legal or other issues arising from relationships. Each client has their own lawyer but the lawyers (along with their clients) agree not to go to court. All discussions are conducted in four way meetings. For further details click here.

Mediation involves the couple having a series of meetings with a neutral third party or sometimes two third parties (the mediator(s)) who help them to reach agreements. The mediators cannot though give legal advice and will always recommend that the couple take individual advice at conclusion of the mediation if not before.

The legal issues that we deal with whether in mediation, collaborative law or otherwise include the following examples:

Moving in together or buying a home.
Seeking advice before forming a civil partnership.
Having children together, including the legal aspects of using a donor or surrogate .
Separation and making arrangements for co-parenting.
The financial consequence of separation and/or dissolving a civil partnership.
Inheritance and other family issues.

We also have expertise in the law on same sex parenting and legal issues affecting transgendered and transsexual people.

We can help if you simply just want information on your legal position from someone who understands gay relationships.

QPod members work together with couples to form agreements and resolve disputes by negotiating constructively, minimising conflict and focusing on what is important to you. To find out more about us click here.
