Andrea is an accredited expert in family law with particular expertise in international family law, child abduction and cohabitation.
Andrea regularly writes and lectures on family law in England as well as in Germany. He is chairman of the Lesbian and Gay Lawyers Association and an authority on civil partnership. He is the author of Civil Partnership, one of the leading text books on this subject. He is also co-author of Model Letters for Family Lawyers, in which he shows how legal concepts can be expressed in clear language that everyone can understand.
This has also motivated Andrea Woelke to put a large amount of free online information on family law issues on the website of Alternative Family Law, including such issues as civil partnership, lesbian and gay co-parenting and the legal paternity after sperm donation - an area where the law changed in April 2009.
Andrea takes the view that family law does not have to be about litigation in the courts, stuffy procedures and language only lawyers understand. Therefore Andrea Woelke offers not only collaborative law, but he is also a trained mediator and offers mediation to all couples, an even more cost-effective method to resolve issues arising from relationship breakdown, an ideal way to approach issues in the credit crunch. Andrea realises that for many people money is tight, especially when they have to finance two households when there used to be one. Therefore, should court proceedings become necessary, he takes a robust approach without losing the overall picture of the issues including the costs of the litigation.
Andrea Woelke is a member of Resolution, the Resolution International Committee and its past chairman, the German Bar Association. Andrea is fluent in German and many of his cases have a German or other international aspect.
